About UNIT

UNIT are a Manchester-based artist family. We make work that is set in the not quite here and the not quite now, blurring fact and fiction and playing with utopian and dystopian devices as a means of rethinking the conditions of contemporary capitalism.

Since the birth of our children in 2013 and 2015 we have been adapting our collaborative art practice to find ways to incorporate and make visible the private domestic sphere of work (or 'reproductive labour' in Marxist-Feminist terms). As part of this process we started working under the collective name UNIT to remove ourselves as individuals and to raise, from within, an oppositional voice to the divisive political rhetoric around hard-working families; at the same time taking this transition as an opportunity to experiment with new working methodologies and aesthetic approaches.
